Property Transfer Official

On Wednesday, June 30, 2010 CHC successfully concluded the acquisition of the Professional Building and the seven acres of land upon which it is located.  We now own this property with the gifted building donated to us by HealthAlliance Hospital (HAH).  We have talked about this for a long time.  It is now a REALITY!

We also want to acknowledge the generosity of Patrick Muldoon and the HealthAlliance Hospital Board in providing CHC with this great opportunity for growth and the base for our new Health Center in Fitchburg.  For more information about our expansion project, please read below.

IFacility Expansion Project
Community Health Connections Fitchburg Community Health Center, a federally qualified community health center established in 2002, and serving North Central Massachusetts is the recipient of a $10.7M federal grant.  The federal stimulus funding supports the expansion of health services, improving access to health care for all, the creation of new jobs (construction, health care providers and support staff) and the reduction of energy costs.

In addition to the $10.7M federal stimulus award, HealthAlliance Hospital is gifting a 17,000 square ft. building to the community health center. The federal grant coupled with the generous gift from HealthAlliance Hospital will support a significant expansion project which includes the complete renovation of the gifted Professional building and the erection of a new, state-of-the-art, 45,000 sq. ft. patient centered health care facility, allowing CHC to provide health services in a more efficient manner, maximizing our services while minimizing our overhead and operational costs.

The Facility Improvement Project will include:
-          The expansion of existing dental services (increased from 9 to 13 dental operatories)
-          The construction of a new 45,000sq. ft. state of the art medical facility (increasing medical exams rooms from 18 to 32)
-          The opportunity to add on-site specialty and other ancillary services to improve access to care
-          Job creation – construction, health care provider and support staff jobs will increase by 5% (107 construction jobs, 38 CHC jobs)
-          Increase the number of students and residents participating in medical and dental training

The new medical facility will continue to serve as Family Practice Residency site for UMass Medical School’s Family Medicine Residency program. Currently CHC has 15 medical residents. Many of whom, upon completion of their three year residency requirement, choose to practice either at the community health center or stay within the region.
“Community Health Connections and HealthAlliance Hospital have a history of working closely and collaboratively to best serve the health needs of our communities; we look forward to continuing that partnership well into the future. The generous gift of the Professional Building and the support we have received throughout our eight years on the Burbank Campus is a testament to the Hospital’s commitment to community. We are also very grateful for the tremendous support of Congressman John W. Olver. His belief in community health centers serving previously uninsured Americans highlighted the future of improved access and care, stated Michael E. Huppert, President and CEO of Community Health Connections”.
